What does “Senzoku” mean?

The Japanese word senzoku (専属) means “exclusive” or “exclusively affiliated.”

In JAV, it is used to describe a performer who is associated with a particular studio or label under an exclusive arrangement.

What is a Senzoku performer?

A senzoku performer typically appears primarily in releases from the studio or label they are affiliated with during the exclusive period.

The exact structure and duration of these arrangements can vary between performers and companies.

Senzoku vs. Kikatan

Senzoku describes an exclusive studio relationship, while kikatan generally describes a performer who can work across multiple studios on individual projects.

What does “Kikatan” mean?

Kikatan is an abbreviation of the Japanese term kikaku tantai (企画単体).

In the JAV industry, it generally refers to a performer who works on individual projects rather than being exclusively attached to a single studio or label.

How does a Kikatan performer work?

A kikatan performer may appear in releases from different studios and production companies.

Because the term describes an industry working arrangement rather than a genre, it can apply across many different types of JAV productions.

Kikatan vs. Senzoku

Kikatan generally refers to non-exclusive project-based performers, while senzoku refers to performers working exclusively with a particular studio or label for a period of time.
